1 + 1= 2 Years Of Extraordinary

As mothers everywhere know, the moment you give birth to a child, a piece of your heart lives outside of your body. My sweet, vibrant and incredibly energetic son has brought to my attention the reminder of how my heart walks around with a spunky fire. The kind of fire sparked by the warmth of playing cowboys and indians, getting our daily ROAR on and making sure the bathtub is filthy by evening (proof of our adventures in dirt). He is through and through a boy...fiercely independent, brave and strong. As he grows older day by day his personality gets more and more amazing.  He's only 2, but two years extraordinary!! No really, let the photos of the little guy with the face paint and feathers speak for themselves.

Scottish, Black, Italian, Apache Indian fiiiyaaah!!

If he hasn't picked up a rock, we haven't done the day justice.

Sometimes you just have to climb a tree and deal with your feelings

...and other times you notice the coolness of  an airplane and life is good.

:-)

Oh the joy of being a boy and sticking your head in a log full of spider webs. Sheeesh!

This kid...

is my heart with a walking stick.

May the sun bring you new energy by day
May the moon softly restore you by night
May the rain wash away your worries
May the breeze blow new strength into your being
May you walk gently through this world
and know its beauty
all the days of your life

Zion, Mother's Day & The Journey

My journey into motherhood began at Zion National Park.
There's a song by Lauryn Hill that has everything to do with my personal experience.
The lyrics hold such truth and touches my heart getting me all teary eyed every time I hear it.  Life is good, and the journey continues.

"To Zion"

Unsure of what the balance held
I touched my belly overwhelmed
By what I had been chosen to perform
But then an angel came one day
Told me to kneel down and pray
For unto me a man child would be born
Woe this crazy circumstance
I knew his life deserved a chance
But everybody told me to be smart
Look at your career they said,
"Lauryn, baby use your head"
But instead I chose to use my heart

Now the joy of my world is in Zion
Now the joy of my world is in Zion

How beautiful if nothing more
Than to wait at Zion's door
I've never been in love like this before
Now let me pray to keep you from
The perils that will surely come
See life for you my prince has just begun
And I thank you for choosing me
To come through unto life to be
A beautiful reflection of his grace
For I know that a gift so great
Is only one God could create
And I'm reminded every time I see your face

That the joy of my world is in Zion
Now the joy of my world is in Zion
Now the joy of my world is in Zion
Now the joy of my world is in Zion

Marching, marching, marching to Zion
Marching, marching
Marching, marching, marching to Zion
Beautiful, beautiful Zion

-Lauryn Hill

Full Sentences & What's It Got To Do With Friday?

Josiah Marley (my little sunshine) has recently turned two and is full steam ahead in becoming quite the chatterbox and is communicating effectively in complete sentences. Score!

Now, as much I adore JM's language development skills, at times I admit I would appreciate a day of silence. I mean seriously, speaking with a toddler 24/7 can drive mama nuts. I have to catch myself when out with adults. "Excuse me, I've gotta go pee pee in the potty." OMG the expression of friends without kids screams "Umm yea, check please!"

Nonetheless motherhood is a blessing and I am proud of JM's speech milestones. I am loving every bit of when he randomly tells me he loves me, communicates his preference of clothing attire and his delight in my not so much Paula Deen cooking saying "Mmm this is yummy, my faaaaavorite." I especially get a kick out of special requests like this...

JM : "Mama, it's a hot and sunny day."
Me: "Yes son, what should we do today?"
JM: "Ummm, I go swimming the beach."
Mama: "Good call, I'm down for sandy feet, palm trees and seventy- five degrees."
JM: "Yea, seven- five beach."

Happy Friday folks, seas the day!

Mother & Daughter

Sure, we broke the rules just to get this shot but you only live once, right?!

Crowned with  brains and beauty. Mama must be proud.

Theres nothing more beautiful than that of the bond between mother and child. I was happy to have recently captured Gernette and Nya's first ever mom and daughter photoshoot together! I chose to go to the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, Ca where it was the last weekend they were going to be open. I imagined the Spring flowers in full bloom as a lovely backdrop to a sunny day with Gernette and Nya's sunny spirit. Score! Love you both and happy early Mother's Day.

Bring It On At The Beach | Cheerleading Photography

It was a busy, crazy and fun filled weekend as I had an absolute blast shooting The California All Stars Junior Mafia Cheerleading Team at their end of the season beach party. It totally smelled like teen spirit at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas! The sun was shining, and the team's energy was contagious. I tapped back into my High School cheer and coaching days and loved every minute of it. Yes, in case your wondering...once a cheerleader, ALWAYS a cheerleader. It's like a sorority and the sisterhood follows you for eva! Now here I am behind the lens,  photographing the tumbling, spirit fingers, and those enthusiastic smiles I used to give. Good times.

Thanks girls...and guys for such a fab and fun time. Looking forward to more where these came from.

If it's in your heart, it will show in your spirit. -Anonymous
